Kofi Kinaata Reveals How Football Delayed His Music Career
Kofi Kinaata, a Ghanaian musician and songwriter, has opened up about how his passion for football initially hindered his music career. In an interview on Opemsuo Radio’s Oseikrom Kwanso with Mac De President, Kinaata revealed that his dreams of becoming a professional footballer confused him and delayed his entry into the music industry.
He explained that he pursued football aggresively and because of that he could not concentrate on music earlier.
“Football confused my music career because I would have started it earlier. It confused me and didn’t let me see the way well. I was playing serious football. I was in the studio, and my coach was angry… I was a defender. I could play defensive football too.”
His love for football was evident in his dedication to the sport. However, his music career eventually took center stage, and he went on to release several hit songs and win numerous awards.
Interestingly, Kinaata’s passion for football has not faded entirely. He has founded a football club, Team Move FC, which he finances, and has even recruited some of his friends.
“Most of my friends are footballers. Music even gave me more friends out of footballers… Last year, we played in the middle league, but things didn’t work out well. This year, we were second in our group. The football club, if I hadn’t formed it, the footballers in the area would have disturbed me. I finance the team. It is not an academy but a team. They have vim that when they play well, something good will come out of it, compared to when we used to play for nothing in the past.”
