Wontumi, 2 Others Charged Over Alleged Mining Law Breaches In Samreboi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, his mining company and one other person at large are facing six criminal charges.
It comes after the Office of the Attorney-General filed the charges at the Criminal Division of the Accra High Court.
Together with one Kwame Antwi and Akonta Mining Company Limited, the three are accused of breaching the country’s mining laws.
The charges emanate from alleged unauthorised mining activities at Samreboi in the Western Region, which invoke key provisions of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703) as amended by the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act, 2019 (Act 995).
Among the full charges are two counts of assignment of Mineral Rights Without Approval, Corporate Liability for Unauthorised Assignment; and two counts of Purposely Facilitating Unlicensed Mining.
