NAIMOS Recaptures Seized Concession of Asante Gold Corporation
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operation Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force has secured a concession of Asante Gold Corporation, which had been taken over by illegal miners.
This was during a swoop conducted at Obuasi in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.
According to the Deputy CEO of the Forestry Commission, Elikem Kotoko, owners of the legally acquired mining concession at Anyankyirem but had been denied access to the concession.
Acting on intelligence, the NAIMOS task forces raided and secured sites at Anyankyirem on November 17, 2025.
He reported that the task force further raided and secured other strategic areas around the Obuasi Airport where there were active illegal mining activities.
“Some mining equipment, including motorbikes, vehicles and water pumps, were seized. Several others, including makeshift structures and mining equipment, were destroyed.”
The Taskforce managed to arrest one suspect.
“The illegal miners took to their heels upon sighting the NAIMOS Taskforce. One person suspected to be a key organiser of the illegal miners at Obuasi was apprehended, and he is currently in police custody for investigation and subsequent prosecution.”
