He Will See What Hooligans Do; Ayariga Promises Addison

The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central constituency, Mahama Ayariga has taken offence in the Minority’s description as hooligans by the Governor of the country’s Central Bank, Dr Ernest Addison, promising him just that.

In an interview the legislator condemned the choice of words of the Governor as he disapproved the tag.

“I did not for once imagine that the Central Bank governor will be so frustrated as to respond that way, to call your Members of Parliament hooligans. People who had written to the police to demonstrate. The police raised issues, we went to court.

“We postponed the demonstration two times, we went to court, we extended {the demonstration}, we had meetings with the police, we came to a clear understanding about the route, the date, the destination, everything and anybody who monitored saw that it was the most peaceful protest…We stood at where the police told us to and we were taken to the Bank of Ghana head office only for him to send the head of security to come for the petition.”

Alternative
The Central Bank governor after likening the Occupy BoG protesters to hooligans in an interview on Wednesday suggested the Minority- who spearheaded the protest- could have used laid down procedures to have their concerns relayed instead of resorting to protest.

But Hon Ayariga notes that they chose to a protest after testing and trying other alternatives to no avail.

“We will not use the methods he wants. In any case he has not been responding to those methods,” said making reference to his letter to the BoG for seeking details about the construction of the new BoG headquarters which was never granted.

Getting Hooligans’ Response
In reaction to the comment, Ayariga is prepared to give the Governor a hooligan experience noting, “No mean a person than the Governor of the Central Bank will us hooligans. He will see what hooligans do.”

He, however, noted that the Minority is yet to reason and respond to the comment officially.
