GRIDCo Identifies Cause Of Sunday Night Blackout

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has identified faulty equipment at the Mallam substation as the cause of the power outage in parts of the country on Sunday night.

As of Monday morning, most parts of the country were still without light.

In a press statement, the power distributors said, “The Ghana Grid Company LTD (GRIDCo) wishes to inform the public that on Sunday, March 3, 2024, due to a fault on equipment at the Mallam substation which occurred at 20:38h power supply to some customers in the western part of Accra, Winneba and Takoradi was interrupted.”

It added that engineers had isolated the faulted equipment for further investigation with efforts underway to supply power areas still experiencing the inconvenience.


“Restoration of supply to affected customers started immediately. As of 22:30h, the power supply to most of the affected customers had been restored.

“For areas without power supply, engineers are working tirelessly to restore power once the faulted equipment is fixed.”

It also apologized to customers for the development saying, “GRIDCo sincerely apologises to all who were affected by the power supply interruption.”
