4 More Including Prime Suspect In Attack On Patrol Team Grabbed

Kwame Ato Asare, the main suspect in the attack against the Axim District Police patrol team in the Western region has been arrested.

He was arrested last Friday together with three others.

Kwame Ato together with others launched an attack on the patrol team on March 9. The attack was captured in a viral video in which Ato claimed the officers had extorted money from them.


The video captured the officers overpowered and pleading on their knees with the group.

In a statement dated April 2, the Police Service announced the arrest of four namely Kojo Siah, Emmanuel Mensah, Maxwell Cudjoe and Agyabu Haruna Dissawu, however, Kwame Ato who was identified as the prime suspect was at large.


In a statement on April 24, the Service announced the arrest of Kwame Ato and three others identified as Williams Kwofie, Richard Kwesi and Emmanuel Kojo Bronie.

They were arrested on April 21 in a village near Enchi in the Western North Region.

Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is investigating an allegation of extortion against the Axim District Police Commander, the Crime Officer and other police officers in the district by Kwame Ato Asare.

“With his arrest, Kwame Ato Asare is expected to assist the investigation into the said allegations and any Police officer found culpable will be put through the due process to be sanctioned in accordance with the laws of the country,” the statement from the police said.
