Ghana’s MPOX Cases Rise to 133

The number of MPOX cases has increased following 14 newly confirmed cases.

In an update, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said the new cases had brought the number of recorded cases to 133.

“No deaths, no admissions, and no fatalities have been recorded.”

In response to this, the respective Regional Health Directorates have promptly activated public health measures, including contact tracing, to prevent further spread of the virus.

“We take this opportunity to remind the public that Mpox is a viral disease transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated materials.”

Common symptoms include rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.

“The Government of Ghana remains committed to safeguarding public health. Drawing on our experience in managing similar outbreaks, we will continue to implement appropriate measures to protect the health and well-being of all residents.”

The public has since been strongly advised to
-Practice regular hand hygiene,
-Avoid close contact with individuals exhibiting symptoms such as rashes,
-Report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility immediately.
-Wash hands regularly with soap and water.
