Ghana High Commission Urges Nationals in South Africa to Stay Indoors Over June 30 Security Concerns

The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria has advised members of the Ghanaian community in South Africa to exercise heightened vigilance and take precautionary measures ahead of a June 30, 2026, deadline issued by the group ‘March and March’ and affiliated organisations.

In a statement, the Mission said the deadline, along with the potential for related protest activities and disruptions in parts of South Africa, has raised concerns for the safety of foreign nationals.

The High Commission is therefore urging Ghanaians to stay indoors, particularly in central business districts, transport hubs, informal trading areas, and any locations where demonstrations or protests may occur.

Nationals have also been advised to close businesses and prioritise personal safety by remaining indoors, to refrain from confrontations or provocative discussions, including on social media, and to ensure that passports, residence permits, and other identification documents are readily available at all times.

The High Commission said emergency telephone numbers will remain available throughout the period for assistance or to report any concerns.

The numbers are 072 514 5476, 072 614 3856, 072 415 3373, 076 771 8726, and 071 985 8042.

The Mission is encouraging Ghanaians in South Africa to remain calm, law-abiding, security-conscious, and fully cooperative with local authorities.

It also urged the community to rely only on information from credible official sources and to avoid spreading unverified reports or rumours.

The High Commission said it will continue to provide updates as necessary and remains committed to the protection and welfare of all Ghanaian nationals in South Africa.
