Five Excavators Impounded in Dawn ‘Galamsey’ Swoop at Beposo

The Ashanti Regional Security Council has impounded five excavators allegedly used for illegal mining at Beposo in the Bosomtwe District, following a dawn operation by National Security operatives.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, who announced the swoop on Facebook, said the action was based on “credible intelligence provided by vigilant whistleblowers” on illegal mining activities in the area.
According to him, the excavators believed to have been used in the illegal operation have been seized, while investigations are ongoing to identify and prosecute all persons linked to the activity.
“Earlier suspects are equally being pursued,” Dr Amoakohene stated.
He expressed appreciation to the whistleblowers, noting that their “timely information made this intervention possible.”
Reaffirming the region’s stance, the Minister said the fight against ‘galamsey’ remains “firm and uncompromising.”
“We remain committed to protecting our forests, water bodies, and the environment. Illegal mining has no place in the Ashanti Region,” he added.
The latest swoop forms part of intensified regional efforts to clamp down on illegal mining, which continues to threaten water bodies and forest reserves across Ashanti.
