Koteihene in Boundary Dispute with Neighbouring Chiefs

Nana Nkansah Amoaye, Koteihene, is locked in a boundary dispute with five neighbouring chiefs, accusing them of encroaching on his land within the Oforikrom Municipality.
The conflict involves Gyinasehene, Ayeduasehene, Deduako, Twumduase, and Kodiekrom, with each side asserting territorial claims.
The protracted land dispute was brought before the Kumasi Traditional Council on March 10, 2025, where Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II presided over the hearing.
At the meeting, Koteihene alleged that Ayeduase had exceeded their shared boundary at River Belebele, while Gyinase had done the same at River Mepu.
Additionally, he accused Deduako, Twumduase, and Kodiekrom of crossing beyond the River Denyame, which lies within his territory.
All five individually denied the claims.
Gyinase however, noted, “He has rather trespassed onto my lands.”
Meanwhile, Koteihene is laying claim over Nahinso as his subject, a claim the latter fiercely rebutted, emphasizing that the community belongs to Otumfuo Samanhene.
“I am not part of Kotei. The community belongs to Saamanhene.”
Committee
The Asantehene set up a four-member committee to probe the boundary dispute.
Nana Agyekum Kusi Ababio, Oyokohene; Nana Nuben Sra III, Tredehene; Nana Mensah Bonsu, Kaasehene; and Baffour Kwaku Amoateng IV, Otumfuo Kyeame Panin, were appointed to lead the inquiry.
Otumfuo charged them to liaise with the Apagyahene to get a surveyor to assess the land.
“Give all the parties a fair hearing and consult Nana Apagyahene for a surveyor and go survey the territories.”
