Christian Atsu To Be Laid To Rest

 

Ghanaian international football player, Christian Atsu, will be laid to rest today, March 17, 2023.

 

 

The former Newcastle player was found dead among rubble from February 6 earthquake in Turkey on February 18.

 

 

He died aged 31 while playing for club Hatayspor in Turkey.

 

 

His remains were transported to Ghana on Sunday, February 19 in the company of his two family members and Ghana’s ambassador to Turkey and were received at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by some of his family members, officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the government of Ghana represented by Vice President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.

 

 

His one week celebration was observed on March 4.

 

 

His final funeral rite is taking place at the forecourt of the statehouse in Accra.

 

 

During the one week celebration, the Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Yussif said the State is taking the full cost of the funeral due to the contributions of the late player.

 

 

“Government has taken all the cost of the one-week celebration. The funeral will be a state funeral. Government will take the cost of that as well because of the late footballer’s contribution to Ghana’s football. ”
