Edudzi Tameklo Chides Akufo-Addo For Ameri Renaming

A member of the legal team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo has called out the Akufo-Addo-led government over plans to commission the renamed Ameri Power Plants.

According to him, the decision to rename the plant which has been relocated to the Ashanti Region to generate 150 megawatts of electricity for the middle belt is borne out of shame.

He recalls how President Akufo-Addo and his agents while in opposition criticized the then President, John Dramani Mahama, for patronising the plant.

Edudzi Tameklo’s public outpour comes after the Volta River Authority (VRA) advertised the commissioning of the plant now named the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant (K1TPP) at Anwomaso, in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The commissioning is slated for April 17, 2024.

In a Facebook post, the legal practitioner said, “Between 2013 and 2015, visionary leader, John Dramani Mahama in his desire to end dumsor, brought the Ameri Power Plants comprising 10 units, each with the capacity to generate 25 megawatts of electricity.

Akufo Addo and BAWUMIA decided to demonize John Mahama for this game-changer emergency power deployment.”

He believes the move by the government is to deceive electorates into voting for them.

“This is what they are planning to go and commission. This corrupt, incompetent, useless and wasteful government is determined to hoodwink voters in the Ashanti Region with the renaming and repackaging. This administration has failed to do anything meaningful in power generation.”
