EC Demands Return Of BVDs From 10 Regions

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has written to 10 of its regional offices to demand the return of some Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) following the district level election.

A memo dated March 7 and issued to the regional offices said 28 BVDs were yet to be submitted to the headquarters three months after the election.

“You will recall that the Commission directed Regional Directors to submit all BVDs used for the 2023 District-Level Election to the Head Office.

“The attention of the Commission has been drawn to the shortage in quantity of BVDs retrieved from the above-listed regions,” a portion of the memo read.

The Commission has therefore demanded the immediate submission of the outstanding devices to the Procurement Inventory and Management Unit of the Head office.

In a breakdown, the memo showed Greater Accra, Central and Eastern have one outstanding device each, two each for Western North, Volta, Savannah and North East, three for Upper East, nine for Northern Region and five for Western Region.

The circulation of the memo followed news about the five missing laptops from the store room of the EC, a development the Commission says will not jeopardize the integrity of the upcoming general elections.
