Defence Ministry Briefs Majority Caucus on National Defence University Ghana Bill, 2026

The Ministry of Defence has briefed the Majority Caucus in Parliament on the National Defence University Ghana Bill, 2026, ahead of its expected presentation to the House.

Deputy Minister for Defence Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi met with Majority Chief Whip Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor on behalf of Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business Hon. Mahama Ayariga.

The meeting is part of engagements held at the start of every Parliamentary session to discuss legislative proposals.

Brogya Genfi said the Cabinet has considered the memorandum and approved it for submission to Parliament for legislative action.

The Bill is a joint initiative between the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education.

According to the Ministry, the legislation aims to address the absence of a central coordinating authority by creating a unified institutional framework to coordinate, regulate, and supervise all tertiary-level defence education and training within the Ghana Armed Forces.

The framework is intended to ensure consistency in academic standards, strengthen quality assurance systems, and enable the award of degrees, diplomas, and certificates under a single nationally recognised authority.

The Ministry team included Chief Director Mr Emmanuel Kartey, Acting President of National Defence University Air Vice Marshal Felix Adom Asante, Acting Judge Advocate General Brigadier General Benjamin Amoah-Boakye, Director of Public Relations Colonel Ernestina Assan, and Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Madam Abena Ofosua Dankwa.
