Debt Swallowing School Feeding Caterers – Spokesperson

The spokesperson for the Ashanti Region School Feeding caterers, Dorothy Ofori has lamented about how debts have swallowed the caterers due to government’s inability to pay them.

Speaking with Agudey on Nkwantannanso on June 5, she said that some caterers have not been paid as far back as 2018 which is not helping them.

“We always borrow to cook and that has been like that for years and they are not paying us. Arrears can be paid after 1 year and sometimes nothing at all.”

“Government appointees are given logistics to work but they have ignored us. They don’t respect us,” she said.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Lariba Zuweira Abudu, has announced that arrears owed to the Ghana School Feeding caterers will be paid in the coming days.

She disclosed this during a press briefing on Sunday, June 4, 2023.

Justifying the delay in the payment, she said, “It takes time because the number (of caterers) is very voluminous- in thousands- so it needs time for the auditors to go through and make sure that every caterer who has cooked has been captured for payment. This one takes time and they have to bear with us when their monies are not coming.”

She assured the caterers that they will have their money next week, however, failed to give the exact date.
