Communication Minister Downplays Heated PAC Exchange with Abena Osei-Asare as “No Hard Feelings”

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has downplayed his heated exchange with Public Accounts Committee Chair Abena Osei-Asare, saying the confrontation reflects their working relationship and not personal animosity.
Speaking after the committee’s sitting, Mr. George said he and Ms. Osei-Asare are “very good friends,” and that their sharp exchanges often stem from that familiarity.
“Maybe that’s part of the reason why our exchanges are very heated because we do this in our regular conversations,” he said.
The Minister explained that his approach to committee work has been consistent since his eight years on the PAC, where he was known for rigorously questioning officials. He said his colleagues were now returning the favor for the scrutiny he directed at NPP ministers during his tenure on the committee.
“I’m a tough nut to crack and so that’s why I come prepared,” Mr. George said.
He stressed that while members are free to ask any question, they must also allow witnesses the opportunity to respond fully.
“If I’m responding and you don’t allow me to respond and it becomes a monologue, it’s not a conversation,” he noted.
George commended Osei-Asare and fellow committee members for their work in scrutinising officials, adding that he would continue to defend his position just as firmly.
He said there were “no hard feelings, no bad blood” from the encounter, pointing to the three of them huddling and laughing after the session ended.
“I’m going to join them for lunch,” he said. “The next time I come back again I’ll fire them,” he added.
