Bullion Van Robbery: Suspects Remanded Into Police Custody

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded all five suspects including four police officers who were incriminated in the bullion van robberies, into police custody.

The five are: Affisu Yaro Ibrahim, Richard Badu, Rabiu Jambedu, Albert Ofosu and Razak Alhassan

Albert Ofosu and Affisu Yaro Ibrahim were reportedly charged with attempts to commit crime and robbery while the three others including the civilian were charged with abetment of crime and robbery.

Lawyer for Albert Ofosu, one of the accused, prayed for bail but it was reportedly opposed by the State Prosecutor who emphasised granting the accused bail will hamper the investigations.

The court eventually decided not to grant the accused bail and adjourned the case to March 28, 2022.

Earlier, the police service in a statement dated March 8, announced the arrest of the four police officers and one civilian, implicated in the series of bullion van robberies out of which one claimed the life of Constable Emmanuel Osei in July 2021.

Per a police report, the two police officers, Reindolph Gyimah Ansah and Stephen Kwaku Nyame, who were initially identified and arrested were shot dead during a raid at Borteyman near Ashaiman.

The statement noted that the police are pursuing other civilians connected to the bullion van robberies
