AU Breaks Silence On Ill-Treatment Of Blacks

The African Union (AU) has reminded Ukrainian Authorities that all persons have the right to cross international borders during conflict.

This is on the back of recent reports of discrimination against blacks in Ukraine, with some black being denied entry into Ukrainian border countries.

According to the AU, singling out Africans for unacceptable dissimilar treatment would amount to racism and breach of international law.

The chairperson of the African Union, H. E. Mackey Sall, and Chairperson of the African Commission Union, H. E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, have “urged all countries to respect international laws and show empathy and support to all people fleeing war notwithstanding their racial identity”.

It noted that both the commission and the union are closely monitoring the developments.

The statement from the AU commended member states of the unions for assisting and helping Africans cross the Ukrainian border.
