Alan Resignation Calls For Deep Retrospection- Boakye Agyarko

Ghana’s former Energy Minister, Mr Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko believes the resignation of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a clarion call for retrospection by the leadership of the Party.

In a statement, he indicated that several other members of the NPP share in the sentiments of Alan who announced his defection from the Party on Monday, September 25.

According to him, Alan was bold enough to put out his sentiments, however, there remain several others who have harboured theirs in only waiting to vote against their Party in the next general election.

“At least, my brother Kyerematen has put his thoughts and feelings on paper for all to appreciate. How about the many who habour similar and maybe more petulant sentiments in their hearts but are not openly expressing same. There are many in our party today who have, out of dismay, resigned in their hearts and are only waiting to walk away from us at the ballot box.”

He has thus called for a retrospection noting that the “consequences of events such as has now befallen us since the heady days of 1951 to date have always been negative and have cast a deep and lingering shadow on our electoral fortunes.”

On Monday, Alan announced his defection from the NPP after 31 years of membership to contest independently for the country’s Presidential election in 2024. He raised concerns about intimidation of his supporters, “controversial and contentious” decisions by the leadership of the NPP and accused some leaders of hijacking the party.

Boakye Agyarko was among 10 Presidential aspirants who contested in the Super Delegates Conference of the NPP in August.

After tying with Francis Addai Nimoh, the party announced an election to break the tie, however, with the condition that the votes would be cast by the National Council of the Party and not the delegates.

This provoked Mr Agyarko to back out of the contest.
