Accra-Kumasi Expressway: GAF Clears 51km, to Compensate Affected People in June- Finance Minister

The Ghana Armed Forces have cleared about 51km of the Accra-Kumasi corridor under President John Mahama’s Accra-Kumasi Expressway project, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced.

In a Facebook post updating the public on the project, Dr Forson said clearance works on the stretch have been completed, paving the way for the next phase.

He stated that following assessments by the relevant state agencies, the Ghana Armed Forces will commence the payment of compensation to affected citizens in June 2026.

“The foundation is being laid for what will become one of Ghana’s most strategic and economically transformative corridors,” Dr Forson wrote, describing the progress as “truly impressive.”

The Accra-Kumasi Expressway is a flagship infrastructure project under the Mahama administration, designed to ease congestion, reduce travel time, and boost trade and economic activity between Ghana’s two largest cities.

The Finance Minister commended the Armed Forces for carrying out the work “steadily, deliberately, and with remarkable professionalism.”

Compensation for property and livelihoods affected by the route has been a key concern for communities along the corridor.

The June timeline for payments is expected to address grievances and clear the way for further construction.
