Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association Distances Itself From Petition To Mahama

The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has denied petitioning former President John Dramani Mahama to contest in the 2024 General Elections.

According to Clement M Boateng and Siaw Ampadu, two leaders of the Association, the publication in the media must be disregarded.

This comes after four Unions in the country including Motor Riders Union, True Drivers Union, Concerned Drivers Union and those purported to be representatives of the Abossey Okai Spare-part Dealers Association reportedly called at the Office of Mr Mahama to encourage him to contest in the upcoming elections.

Presenting the petition to the office of the former President, the Public Relations Officer of the Motor Riders Association, Setsofia Quashie is quoted as saying, “Since you left, everything has been in shambles, we can’t even buy fuel to work to make ends meet. Things have been so tough that we can’t wait to see you come to rescue us. We are by this petition asking you to endlessly consider the points raised and do the needful by heeding to the call of all Ghanaians who are yearning for a change.”

But the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has distanced itself from the petition.

In a statement, it explained that the persons who paraded themselves as representatives of the Association are neither executives nor members and therefore joined the three other unions in their own capacity.

“We wish to state that those people who joined the group to meet the former President are not either the Executives or even members of the Abossey Okai Spare parts Dealers Association, it was some people from Abossey Okai who decided to join the group to meet the former President.”

It added, “and so, we are surprised that they paraded themselves as Abossey Okai Spare parts Dealers Association.”

The leadership noted that the Association is non-partisan and will therefore not embark on such a venture.

“We wish to state that, Abossey Okai Spare parts Dealers Association is a non-political Association and will not embark on that action. Our office is open to every political party and that is the reason why in every election year, all the political parties troop to our office and have deliberations with us. We don’t dabble in politics and will continue to engage with every party in government to come out with policies that will have a positive impact on our business as it has always been.”
