A/R: GIS Arrests 606 Undocumented Migrants in Dawn Swoop

The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested 606 undocumented migrants on the streets of Kumasi.


A statement by the Regional Public Relations Unit said they were arrested in a dawn swoop on April 21, 2026, at Asawase, Alabar, Akwatia Line, Dagomba Line, Sabon Zongo, and Aboabo.


“The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in the Ashanti Region, led by the Regional Commander, DCOI Fred Amankwa, has successfully conducted an operation in the early hours of Tuesday, 21st April 2026, aimed at addressing the presence of undocumented migrants on the streets of Kumasi.”


“The operation commenced at 03:30 hours and ended at 05:00 hours,” it added.


Of the 606 individuals, 381 were children, 72 were females, and 153 were males.

It noted that all apprehended individuals have since been transported to Prampram for further screening to ascertain their identities.
