Two persons are in the grips of the police for their alleged involvement in a robbery incident at the Upper Amenfi Rural Bank at Jukwa near Wassa Akropong.
Although the police identified three persons as suspects, one identified as the leader of the gang was shot dead during a police raid at his hideout.
The two in police custody are Tahiru Issaka, 26, and Yahiza Mohammed, 34.
They were arrested at their hideouts in the Ashanti region on August 25, 2022.
According to the police, the six armed robbers raided the bank on July 27, 2022, disarmed the security man on duty, assaulted two of the bank staff and made away with an unspecified amount of money and a pump action gun.
They reportedly shot one person who tried to block the road to prevent them from escaping.
The police say the arrest was made with the combined effort of police officers from the Ashanti, Western and Bono East Regional Police Commands.
The police noted that it has retrieved four vehicles, a motorbike, two pistols and a number of amunitions from the two suspects.
The police are now on a manhunt for the remaining three suspects.
