Parliamentary Education Committee Concludes Oversight Visits to 13 Tertiary Institutions Over Audit Concerns

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education has wrapped up a three-day oversight engagement with selected universities, technical universities and professional institutions to address issues raised in the Auditor-General’s Reports for the 2024 and 2025 financial years.

The exercise, which focused on accountability and the efficient management of public resources, highlighted several challenges across the institutions.

Key concerns raised included inadequate staffing at Information Technology directorates, delays in payments to suppliers, payroll irregularities, and the underpayment of motorcycle maintenance and utility allowances.

Institutions engaged during the exercise were Ho Technical University, University of Cape Coast, University for Development Studies, University of Energy and Natural Resources, University of Business and Integrated Development Studies and University of Technology and Applied Sciences.

The rest are the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana, University of Media, Arts and Communications, Chartered Institute of Bankers, University of Professional Studies, University of Mines and Technology, Dr Hilla Limann Technical University, and Tamale Technical University.

The Committee, led by its Chairman, Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe Kwasi, said the engagements were aimed at ensuring institutions respond appropriately to audit findings and strengthen internal controls.

Hon. Nortsu-Kotoe Kwasi indicated that the Committee will continue to monitor the implementation of recommendations arising from the engagements to ensure that identified irregularities are addressed and public resources are efficiently managed.
