Fisheries Commission, Ghana Tuna Association Deliberate Tuna Sector Strengthening

The Fisheries Commission has hosted a stakeholder engagement meeting with the Ghana Tuna Association as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and promote effective management of Ghana’s tuna fisheries.
The Commission and the GTA deliberated on key developments and operational issues affecting the tuna sector.
Discussions covered outcomes from the recent International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) meeting, the Yellow Card and fisheries regulations, inspections, VMS and EMS monitoring, safety at sea, catch returns, as well as the renewal and evaluation of fishing licenses.
Payment of applicable fees and beneficiary ownership requirements were also part of the engagement.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both the Commission and industry representatives to share updates and reinforced the importance of regular dialogue between regulators and stakeholders.
The Fisheries Commission reiterated its commitment to working closely with the tuna industry to promote compliance, safety, transparency and sustainable fisheries management in Ghana’s waters.
