Ashanti Region Crowned Champions of MTN Elite U-19 Inter-Regional Championship
Ashanti Region has emerged champions of the MTN Elite Inter-Regional U-19 Championship after defeating Eastern Region 4-3 on penalties in the final at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram.
The Ashanti side began their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Volta Region before showing composure from the spot to win 5-3 on penalties. They followed it up with a narrow 1-0 victory over Upper West Region.
They continued their impressive run with a 2-0 win over Western Region before suffering their first setback against Eastern Region. The two sides played out a goalless draw, with Eastern Region winning 6-5 on penalties.
The defeat, however, did not stop them from pushing for the ultimate prize as they bounced back strongly with a 2-1 victory over Central Region to book their place in the final.
The final brought another meeting with Eastern Region, giving Ashanti the opportunity to avenge their earlier penalty shootout defeat.
This time, Ashanti Region held their nerve to win 4-3 in open play to emerge champions of the MTN Elite U-19 Championship after an impressive campaign.
