Civil Service Key to Delivering the Resetting Ghana Agenda- Veep
Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has underscored the central role of Ghana’s Civil Service in achieving sustainable national development and ensuring government policies are translated into tangible services for citizens.
Speaking at the 2026 Civil Service Week Celebration and 2025 Awards Ceremony in Accra, held under the theme “The Resetting Agenda for Sustainable Development in Ghana: The Civil Service’s Responsibility,” the Vice President said the Civil Service remains the backbone of the state by providing continuity across political administrations, preserving institutional knowledge, and supplying the technical expertise needed to turn policy into action.
She noted that the performance of the Civil Service directly shapes the quality of services Ghanaians receive in critical areas such as health, education, agriculture, infrastructure and economic development.
According to her, citizens’ experience of government is ultimately determined by how effectively public institutions function on the ground.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang added that government’s ongoing public sector reforms, improved financial management and stricter expenditure controls must lead to institutions that work better and public services that respond more effectively to the needs of the people.
She stressed that the “Resetting Ghana Agenda” cannot succeed without a competent, ethical and responsive Civil Service.
The Vice President commended the Head of the Civil Service and all stakeholders for organizing the celebration.
She also congratulated recipients of the 2025 Civil Service Awards for demonstrating discipline, integrity, innovation and commitment to public service.
She further acknowledged the many public servants who, though not recognized with awards, continue to serve diligently, treat citizens with dignity and contribute meaningfully to national development.
“Public service is a sacred trust placed in our hands by the people of Ghana. As we pursue the Resetting Ghana Agenda, we must remain worthy of that trust,” she stated.
