15 Professionals Trained in GIS for Forest Monitoring and Resource Management

The Forestry Commission Training Centre has completed an intensive five-day course on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for forest monitoring, mapping and resource management, equipping 15 participants with practical skills for natural resource management.
The training, which ended recently, brought together participants from TA Commodity Producers Co. Nigeria Ltd, the Forestry Commission Edo State in Nigeria, the Environmental Protection Authority, the Wildlife Division, the Forestry Services Division, and recent university graduates.
Organisers said the mix of institutions and young professionals was aimed at strengthening regional and local capacity for data-driven environmental management.
During the programme, participants received hands-on instruction in GIS applications for forest resource management, spatial data collection and visualisation, and map production.
The course also covered mobile data collection using GPS and GField, as well as basic spatial analysis to support decision-making in environmental and natural resource work.
The Forestry Commission Training Centre said it remains committed to providing industry-focused training for professionals and graduates to promote sustainable forest management and environmental conservation.
It congratulated all participants on completing the programme and expressed hope that they will apply their newly acquired GIS knowledge in their organisations and communities.
