YEA Job Apps: Basintale Clarifies Need for Two Platforms

The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has explained the rationale behind the creation of two separate digital platforms for job seekers and employers.

Following concerns raised over the announcement, the Deputy Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the cost for the apps won’t be borne by taxpayers.

In a Facebook post, he said that the first App which will operate locally and internationally is an already fully packed App developed through a Private-Public partnership

He explained that it would be a platform with a pool of artisans and skilled labour where seekers can find plumbers, carpenters, tailors, masons, electricians, etc.

According to him, the app to be launched in a few days will enable seekers to “easily get connected to {these workers} and that will be one of our major exit plans for our already trained skilled labour”.

“The contribution of YEA will just be to provide skilled labour available now and in the future to the Private developer. By this, more than 100,000 jobs will be created through the informal sector both locally and internationally.”

The second App, he said, is the YEA’s Job Centre which will constantly connect Job seekers to employers on a daily basis.

“This will operate as EASY and SIMPLE as possible for anyone, anywhere in Ghana to utilize in their search for Jobs.”
