Nsoatre Football Violence: Ex-Employment Minister, 2 Others Arrested

The Police have arrested former Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah and two others for their alleged involvement in the violence that erupted at the Nana Kronamansah Park during a game between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC.

The incident on Sunday claimed the life of a Kotoko supporter with others sustaining different degrees of injuries as well as damages to some equipment.

The police effected their arrest on Monday, February 3, 2025.

In a press statement, the police identified the remaining two suspects as Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph.

“All three suspects are currently in Police custody assisting in the investigation,” it said, adding that a search conducted in the room of suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu led to the retrieval of two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.

The police management has also deployed a special team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, to assist the Bono Regional Police Command in the investigation.

Meanwhile, it disclosed the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare had communicated with the bereaved club and family, assuring of a thorough investigation into the matter.

“The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has spoken to the family of the deceased and the leadership of Kumasi Asante Kokoto Football FC to express the condolences of the Police.”
