Finance Minister to Engage Contractors to Commence Kumasi–Kenyasi Road Construction

The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has committed to engaging a contractor to mobilise his equipment and workforce to commence the construction of the Kumasi–Kenyasi road.
This was conveyed in the form of assurance to the Management of Newmont on May 21, 2025.
Once it commences, work is expected to be completed between 12 and 18 months.
“As a matter of urgency, I will engage the Roads Ministry to commence work on the Kumasi–Kenyasi road, with an expected construction timeline of 12 to 18 months.”
He further committed to addressing the infrastructure deficit confronting the mining sector.
“I assured them of the government’s resolve to address infrastructure challenges in mining communities.”
The delegation visited the Ministry purposely to hand over a $174 million cheque as part of the payment of capital gains for the sale of the company’s Akyem Mine.
Newmont also presented a separate $50 million cheque to the government, representing Ghana’s carried interest in the transaction of the mine valued at nearly $1 billion.
