Robbery Suspect Escapes Police Custody After Requesting to Use Washroom

Police at the Amanfro District Command under the Weija Division in the Greater Accra Region are on a manhunt for a robbery suspect who escaped from detention after asking to use the washroom.
The fugitive, identified as Kwame Mike, was among three men arrested in connection with a robbery incident at Mallam Junction in the early hours of Thursday, October 16, 2025. The suspects were apprehended after a police intelligence operation intercepted a gang allegedly attacking passengers in the area.
According to a statement from the Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the suspects attempted to flee when police patrol teams arrived.
Three were captured — Stephen Amoani (42), Osei Antwi (30), and Kwame Mike — while another accomplice, Kofi Sammy, reportedly armed with a pump-action gun, managed to escape the scene.
A subsequent search led to the discovery of items suspected to have been stolen, including a black Honda CR-V (DV 3145-2025), three gallons of akpeteshie, GH¢12,055 in cash, and several mobile phones.

However, the case took a dramatic twist after the arrests. While in custody, Kwame Mike allegedly asked to use the washroom but never returned. The police officer assigned to escort him has since been invited for questioning as part of internal investigations into the escape.
