Ghana Medical Trust Fund Board Inaugurated With Anthony Ashitei Lithur as Chair

Ghanaian Attorney, Anthony Ashitei Lithur, has been appointed Chair of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), an initiative to advance healthcare delivery and strengthen Ghana’s response to Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
The 13-member Board with Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku as Administrator was inaugurated on October 13, 2025.
Other members are Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, the Chief Executive Officer, National Health Insurance Authority, Dr Belinda Afriyie Nimako, as Representative of the Ministry of Health, Patrick Nomo as Representative of the Ministry of Finance, Mrs Nelly Bernice Wallace as the Representative of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Dr Mohammed Sherif Abdul-Khaliq (MP) as Representative of the Health Sector and Dr Yaw Adu-Agyei Gyamfi as Representative of the Pharmaceutical Industry.

The rest are Prof. Alfred Doku, a Health Professional (Chronic Disease Expert); Mrs Ann Pearl Akiwumi Siriboe, a Legal Practitioner; Dr Linda Narh, a Presidential Nominee; Hon. Cletus Seidu Dapilah, a Presidential Nominee and Mr Godwin Ako Gunn, a Presidential Nominee.
Launched in April 2025 at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), the Fund officially commenced operations on September 1, 2025, marking the beginning of a bold national initiative to mobilise resources, build capacity, and provide critical medical infrastructure to combat the growing burden of NCDs across Ghana.
In a statement, the Fund reaffirmed its commitment to serve with compassion, integrity, and purpose, advancing healthcare equity and ensuring that no Ghanaian life is lost to a preventable or treatable condition.
