US Embassy Apologises After Internet Outages

The US Embassy in Accra has apologized to the country for the disruption in their communication flow due to the widespread internet outage experienced across the country and in parts of Africa on March 15, 2024.

In a brief statement on its Facebook page, the Embassy said, “Embassy communications have been affected by the widespread internet outages. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

The internet outage attributed to a disruption in international undersea cables affected the internet, data and Voice over IP (VoIP) services of various telecommunication companies in Ghana.

In a statement, the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications said, there was an outage on multiple submarine optic fibre cables that come into Ghana.

“Some of the cables are down while others are delivering limited capacity… As a result, customers and subscribers are currently experiencing service challenges.”

It said investigations are being carried out, as well as work to resolve the current problems to restore service to our customers.

Meanwhile, telecommunication companies in Ghana including MTN reached out to their customers to assure them of swift resolution.

“MTN apologises for the challenges our customers are experiencing in accessing data services and reaching our call centre.

“This is due to a disruption on our international undersea cables. Our technical teams are working with our international partners to resolve the issue.”
