Asantehene to Hold Heal KATH Fundraising

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will be holding an event to raise funds to carry on with the renovation of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Following the completion of the first phase of the project, Otumfuo directed the Committee to find a suitable date to hold a fundraising function to raise funds to complete it.

In compliance with the directive, April 21, that is, Easter Monday, was proposed during a courtesy visit to the King on March 14, 2025, by the Heal KATH Committee.

Otumfuo while admitting the proposed date charged his office to assist the Committee in inviting identifiable groups for the event.

Low Patronage
The Chairman of the Committee, Sammy Adu Boakye, informed the Asantehene about the low Patronage the project has garnered since it’s launch in November 2023.

He suggested that stricter measures would be appropriate as the project has been left for only the few influential in the society.

“We haven’t been able to get households to contribute as Otumfuo requested during the launch. The project has been left to be shouldered by only a few people. Churches, shops, and even chiefs have not gotten involved.”

He indicated that contributions from all these stakeholders would not be enough to push the project further to completion.

Report
The team led by the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, also presented financial and structural reports on the project to the Manhyia Palace.

Before presenting it, the CEO gave an update on the progress of the work.

“We are done with the First Phase and Otumfuo has been there to inspect it. It encompasses re-roofing the whole blocks plus interior renovation of Blocks A4, A5 and A3. We thank Otumfuo for entrusting us with such a great and honourable project.

Disappointment
Otumfuo expressed his dissatisfaction with the patronage so far.

“I am saddened by the news. We want quality healthcare service but we are not willing to contribute…People are applauding me after pictures of the renovated part went online. They shouldn’t. What have I done? We all have to join forces to complete what has been started. No one knows when we will require the services of the facility…We have do all it takes to complete it.”

Appreciation
The Occupant of the Golden Stool further acknowledged the dedicated and selfless efforts of the Committee.

He added, “For the selflessness exhibited on your part, we will do all we can to find the funds to complete it.”

The delegation included Ing Kwadwo Darko, Kwame Frimpong and Mawusi Mary.
