Ghana Mourns: Helicopter Crash Victims Go Home Today

The state is preparing to lay to rest six of the eight victims of the August 6 helicopter crash today, August 15, 2025, as it holds a state funeral for the victims.
The funeral is currently ongoing at Black Stars Square.
Spotted at the event are President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Naana Opoku Agyemang, Speaker Alban Sumana Bagbin, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former President J.A. Kufuor, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman.
Also present are government officials, traditional leaders, members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), and numerous others.
Crash
The GAF helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in Adansi Akrofrom in the Ashanti Region claimed the lives of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.
It also claimed the lives of Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General, NADMO, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manden Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The Muslims among the victims were buried on August 10 in accordance with the Islamic practice.
