IGP Enlightens Stakeholders On Security Arrangements For Upcoming Akwatia By-election

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has enlightened key stakeholders in the upcoming Akwatia by-election about laid-down security arrangements.

He engaged the various stakeholders to discuss security arrangements to ensure peace, law, and order before, during, and after the polls.

The meeting, held on August 19, 2025, provided a platform for the Police Service to share security arrangements for the election with the political parties and also note their concerns from the service.

The political party representatives expressed their appreciation for the engagement and, among other things, called for fairness and transparency in security deployment to build trust in the process.

It followed a similar engagement with the Electoral Commission (EC) to discuss the broader roadmap for the polls a week ago.

The discussions centred on coordination between the Police and the EC to ensure smooth operations before, during, and after the election.

It was an opportunity for the Commission to also outline its operational roadmap for the conduct of the by-election.

The IGP has also engaged the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG), where he highlighted concerns related to electoral security, transparency, and the role of stakeholders in sustaining public confidence in the process.

“The Ghana Police Service will continue to engage stakeholders as we firm up operational preparations to ensure security law and order before, during, and after the election,” it said in a statement.

It comes after the rerun of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election was marred by violence.

The Akwatia by-election is set for September 2, 2025.
