Starlink Equipment Not Approved- NCA

The National Communication Authority (NCA) has flagged the operation Starlink and the sale of their equipment in Ghana.

According to the Authority, the equipment of the company owned by billionaire Elon Musk has not received their approval nor has their operation been licensed.

“We wish to inform the general public that, the NCA has neither licensed the operations of Starlink in Ghana nor type-approved any of their equipment.”

It posits that the company is breaching Section 3(1) of the Electronic Communications Act 2008, Act 775.

The provision states, “Except as otherwise provided under this Act a person shall not operate a public electronic communications service or network or provide a voice telephony service without a licence granted by the Authority.”

The NCA has on that note cautioned the public against patronizing their equipment.

“The general public is cautioned to desist from patronising any equipment or service purported to be from Starlink. Persons engaging in the sale or operations of the service are also directed to cease and desist immediately.”

Starlink has an online platform where its goods including ethernet adapters, routers, V2 dishes, mount, cables, pole mount, wall mount, accessories, mesh and others are offered on sale to the Ghanaian populace.

The NCA highlighted that its move is to ensure fair participation and competition in the market to safeguard its licensees and consumers.
