Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Marks 7th Awukudae

The seventh Awukudae of the year was marked by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

His Majesty was joined by people from various institutions and organisations to mark the event as he sat in state.

Among the guests were delegations from the Ghana Caribbean Chamber of Commerce, Past Students of St Louis Senior High School, Osei Tutu Senior High School (OT), Opoku Ware Senior High School (OWASS), Knights of Marshal, the Presbytery Session Council, the Multimedia Group and the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA).

Ghana Caribbean Chamber Of Commerce
The delegation was led by Joel Martinez, the Mayor of Port of Spain, a Municipality in the capital of Trinidad and Tobago.

The delegation told the King about the celebration of the upcoming second Carnival in Kumasi.

“I bring greetings on behalf of my delegation and the Chamber of Commerce in Ghana to Ghana and the people of Kumasi. We are here to join in the celebration with the people of Kumasi for your carnival, the second carnival celebration”, he told the King.

Presbytery Session Council
The Presbytery Session Council Standing committee thanked His Majesty for the Asante Kingdom’s contribution to the Church.

“In our 100th year, we need to celebrate and enlighten the new generation about our contributions to the Ashanti region. Traditional rulers have been of immense help to us. Wherever we go to preach the gospel, the traditional rulers help us in broadcasting our programmes and they shelter us. We now have over 100,000 members in the Ashanti region. We thank Otumfuo.”

It also reminded the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II about the Church’s upcoming centenary anniversary.

The event will take place at the Jubilee Park in Accra on November 6, 2022, the delegation told the King.

It also presented an institutional narrative of the church to the King.

Knights Of Marshal
The Ladies and Knights of Marshal also joined His majesty in the celebration of the Awukudae.

The delegation showed appreciation to the King for choosing a representative to attend the Marshallan Lecture which was in honour of Emeritus Archbishop Peter Kwasi Sarpong.

“Our Lord, Otumfuo, regards Archbishop Emeritus as his uncle and we couldn’t honour him without informing the King. He (Otumfuo) chose Hiahene to represent him during the event. We came to thank him for his presence”, Sir Knight Father Bour, one of the leaders of the Knights said.

The delegation also disclosed its intention to honour His Majesty during his 25th Anniversary which falls in 2024.

“Our programme is a Marshallan lecture series which honours prominent persons. It is done every two years. Our next lecture will be held in 2024. It will coincide with the 25th anniversary of Otumfuo.

“We plead to honour His Majesty when the time comes. We ask that he includes us in his plans when he is marking the anniversary. We would like to propagate the good work of Otumfuo”, he said.

Multimedia Group
The Multimedia group joined the Awukudae to present a copy of their documentary on illegal mining in the country to the Asantehene.

The documentary which was composed by Erastus Asare Donkor, a journalist with the media network, features the destruction caused to the country’s various river bodies across the country as a result of the menace.

Presenting it to the King, he said, “I was sent out to monitor how the government’s fight against illegal mining was going. We worked on that for four months. We visited a lot of places including the Western region, Ashanti region, and Eastern Region. We visited River Tano, Ankobea, and all the places where the illegal mining activities destroying the water bodies are ongoing. We have bought a copy to our Lord because he has the authority to help in dealing with it.”

PROTOA
The Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) on their part, introduced their newly elected leaders to His Majesty as he sat in state.

The Association also pleaded with the King for land to operate a lorry terminal in the Ashanti region where it says it has about four thousand (4,000) members.

They told the King there is already an investor for the construction of the terminal.

Congratulating the drivers on the trajectory and admonishing them to observe all road safety measures, His Majesty assured them of his contribution towards the construction of the terminal.

Manhyia Officer Of Prisons
The outgone Manhyia Officer of Prisons, ADP Nana Kofi Antwi was with his successor, DDP Joseph Asabre.

Rtd ADP Antwi introduced the new officer to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He requested the King help the local prison by providing skills to the inmates as well as a vehicle and residence for the officers.

Extending a warm welcome to DDP Asabre, His majesty admonished him to be tolerant and cooperate with his subordinates.

St Louis Past Students
Past Students of St Louis Senior High School also participated in the Awukudae on October 26.

The delegation which included past students, the headmistress of the school, Ama Kyerewaa Benefo and a teacher reminded the King about their upcoming 70th anniversary which will be celebrated on the 26th day of November.

They also presented a piece of the celebration cloth to the King.

OT
The delegation from Osei Tutu Senior High School was made up of the Board of Governors, Headmaster, Staff and old students of the school.

The delegation informed the King about their upcoming 83rd anniversary which is yet to be unveiled on October 29 and the commissioning of an E-Library named after His Majesty on March 22 next year.

OWASS
The delegation from the Opoku Ware Senior High School also invited the King to their 70th-anniversary celebration in December.

The event will be held on December 3.

Global President of Old students of the School, Mike Adu Domfeh who spoke on behalf of the delegation presented an official invitation and a piece of the celebration cloth to the King.

OKESS
The delegation from Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) was there to show their immense appreciation to King for personally attending their 85th Anniversary on October 8.

Their appreciation was also related to the King’s immediate intervention to get the school a loo and an ICT facility- two main challenges the school is saddled with.
