Otumfuo Foundation: “Education Is Asantehene’s Priority”

Water and Sanitation, Culture and Heritage Project Officer for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, Sarbeng Mensah, has affirmed that education is a top-notch priority of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

According to him, it is against this backdrop that a couple of educational intervention programs, including the Community-based Reading Competition, have been designed and introduced to enhance the educational system.

“The foundation of every child’s educational endeavor is the ability to read and read correctly which is key to the child’s success, particularly with education. It is against this background that, the reading competition has been introduced to empower students to be able to read and read well”.

Mr. Sarbeng emphasized that seven out of the nine subjects studied in basic school are English aside Twi and French. As such, it is imperative to raise students who would love reading and to impact their educational lives.

He stated that it is also important to build students to desire and be capable of reading the local Twi dialect as a way of sustaining the Twi dialect for posterity.

Speaking on Opemsuo Radio, Mr. Sarbeng Mensah, disclosed that, the competitors benefited massively from the program ranging from learning materials such as books, pen and pencils, tablets, laptops, and others. Cash prizes with the least of GHC 1000 and GHC 5000 to the winner as well as an establishment of a library in the winner’s school were also awarded.
