Asantehemaa Promises Facial Uplift For Manhyia Hospital’s MBU

The Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III has promised to offer a facelift to the Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) of the Manhyia District Hospital to a befitting status by next year.

She made the promise during the celebration of World Prematurity Day by the Manhyia District Hospital which saw some 45 pre-term babies being graduated on Thursday 17th November 2022.

It was held under the theme; “a parent’s embrace: a powerful therapy, enable skin to skin contact from the moment of birth”.

A Pediatrician with the MBU, Dr Yaa Amo Mensah on the occasion told Opemsuo News that in 2021, the Manhyia District Hospital recorded 150 cases of pre-term babies of which five of them were lost.

She attributed the death to a delay on the part of the parents in visiting the hospital for medical assistance and encouraged a regular visits to hospitals.

Dr Amo Mensah mentioned the lack of space as one of the topmost challenges facing the hospital and called for support. Difficulty in following up with pre-term mothers was mentioned as another challenge.

Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, who was represented by the Paramount Queenmother of Asante Mampong, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, noted the various challenges facing health workers at the MBU.

She reaffirmed that giving the facility a facial upgrade has been her major priority.

Nana Agyakoma Difie II encouraged advocacy from mothers with pre-term infants to spread awareness on prematurity.
