OSP Distances Itself From Raid of Ofori Atta’s Home

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has denied sanctioning the raiding of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta’s residence by 12 individuals.

The said persons are reported to have conducted a search in various portions of the house on Tuesday.

At a press conference on February 12, 2025, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng said his office was not behind the raid.

This was in response to correspondence from the lawyers of the cousin of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ascertain if the OSP was behind the act.

Publicly replying to the lawyers, he stated, “Mr Ofori Atta, the OSP did not raid your house on Tuesday, 11th February 2025 or on any other day. The OSP did not cause any person however uniformed or bedecked to raid your house on Tuesday, 11th February 2025 or on any other day. That could not have been the OSP and that is not our style.”

According to him, the Office does not use such methods in search of a suspect’s residence.

“If the OSP enters into your premises, you will not be in doubt as to whether it was the OSP that had come and your lawyers would not have cause to do an enquiry to ascertain whether it was the OSP. We have our unique method of conducting searches and we have uniquely designed an insignia in identifying ourselves and not just by statement that we are from the OSP.”

Meanwhile, the OSP suspects that the raid was staged in an attempt to soil its image after subjecting Mr Ofori Atta to investigations over corruption and corruption-related offences.

“Our intelligence points us to state that the purported raid on Mr Ofori Atta’s residence was staged or at best an imposter action in an attempt to court disfavour for the OSP and to derail the investigation.”
