OIL CANNOT SUSTAIN THE ECONOMY ALONE – OTUMFUO

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has noted that the country can boost its economy through improved agriculture production.
Oil production alone cannot build a robust economy without a strong agricultural sector.
“…our economy is hinged on agriculture, we can talk about oil and all those things but I have always maintained that oil and all those cannot sustain the economy without agriculture…”

The Asantehene made the remarks when a South African Business Delegation visited him at the Manhyia Palace.
Kodwo Marfo, the aid to the Ghanaian ambassador to South Africa, Reverend Michael Twum Darko, who led the delegation disclosed that the team has the mission of identifying opportunities in the country for future partnership with farmers.

The Asantehene asked that the delegation focused their attention to the transformation of available raw materials and resources to add value.
On employment issues, Otumfuo encouraged sharing of ideas so as to advance job creation and trading activities.
“…you have the technology we have the resources, we now know that we can trade together share ideas together. You bring your technology and advancements. And then we bring our resources and see how best we can combine that to empower our people…”

“..We have the resources but we do not have the knowhow in relation to transforming that into adding value to these things…”
He advised that they make good use of their trip by getting to know the people of Ghana because “before you like a country you should like the people. When you go to any country you want to invest you should first feel the people”

He further assured them of the welcoming nature of Ghanaians.
