Office of Registrar of Companies In Kumasi Inaugurated

The Kumasi office of the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has been launched by the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

The event which took place on Monday, July 17 saw the Chairman of the Board of the ORC, Seth Asante and the Registrar-General of the ORC, Jemima Oware in attendance.

The three-storey office complex located at Adum is made up of 34 offices, two conference rooms, a pantry, a canteen, 21 washrooms, reception, a security office and a car park.

In his speech, the Attorney-General described the establishment of the building as a milestone in the life of the ORC as he recalled how the objective to establish permanent ORC offices across the country was birthed in 2007.

“At this point is apt to acknowledge the bold vision of the then Registrar General in 2007 after one of the very embarrassing episodes of being thrown out of the temporary premises the Director-General was occupying, decided to dedicate a part of the proceeds of IGF the Office was earning towards the acquisition of a piece of land for the construction of its offices.

“This commendable initiative gave birth to this project and has not forever delivered it from the humiliating experiences it suffered in the past but has also placed it in a better position to offer quality services to the public as mandated by law.”

On that note, he said he hoped the establishment of the permanent office in Kumasi inspires the staff of the Office of the Registrar of Companies to give off their best.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the Office in its drive to get permanent offices across the country.

“I’ve stated before the Office of the Registrar of Companies possesses the ability to be a formidable institution for the country in the area of good governance and the fight against corruption. In this regard, it is absolutely imperative for the ORC to have permanent offices around the country. The ORC needs to be firmly established in every district and region in Ghana. The Kumasi Office of the ORC thus does not need to be the last of the drive of the ORC. I assure you of our government support to the ORC to acquire permanent offices in all the regions in the country.”

In an update, he said the construction of the ORC’s headquarters in Accra will be completed in 2025.

Currently, he disclosed, the full consideration for the acquisition of the 2-acre land for the building has been paid with the architectural drawings for the Office in the offing.

Meanwhile, he said, processes are on course for the selection of a contractor.
