Manasseh Azure Blasts NDC Over Silence on Vice Chairman’s “Distasteful” Action at Akwatia

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has condemned the glaring silence of the ruling party following the “distasteful” actions and utterances of its National Vice Chairman, Sofo Azorka, during the Akwatia by-election.

According to him, the least the National Democratic Congress could have done was apologise and dissociate itself.

“Yesterday, I had the displeasure of seeing some videos of the NDC’s National Vice Chairman, Sofo Azorka, during the Akwatia by-election. His words and actions were distasteful, to say the least. If he had been a member of the opposition NPP, I believe the police would have “invited” him by now.

“Despite his apparent immunity (which both parties enjoy in government), however, the NDC ought to have apologised and dissociated itself from the behaviour of its national executive. Alternatively, the party could have quietly asked him to apologise. (I’m yet to see any apology from him or the party.)”

He reminded the party that such actions by the now opposition New Patriotic Party sponsored their fall from power.

“What you do today determines your fortunes in tomorrow’s election. The elephant is in a political quagmire today because of the arrogance its members and leaders exhibited when they had power.”

Manasseh warned that the goodwill the governing party enjoys currently will dissipate with time, when it will fall out of favour with the public.

“Actions like Azorka’s chip away at that goodwill, bit by bit. With time, your party will find itself in the position the NPP finds itself today if you don’t deal with the excesses. What the party’s leaders do will either attract or repel potential supporters.

“To avoid needless firefighting and ‘blamestorming’ earlier than you expect, try to be different. A drunken man doesn’t often realise he is drunk until he is sober. That’s what the intoxication of political power does. But some people will point it out to you before you are too drunk to mend your ways.”

The Vice Chairman and one other constituency executive were separately captured on camera, threatening the lives of the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin; the National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye; and Hon. Frank Annor Dompreh.

In another video, Azorka and some men with him attempted to physically assault the 3rd National Vice Chairman of the NPP, Alhaji Osman Masawudu.

The NPP has since demanded the arrest of the two.
