Napoli Win 3rd Serie A Title

Italian professional football club Napoli have won a third Serie A title after 33 years following their draw against Udinese on Thursday.

They were crowned winners despite having five more games to play.

Napoli are leading the league with 80 points-16 points clear of Lazio who occupy the second place on the table.

Verona, Cremonese and Sampdoria are sitting in the relegation zone on the table with 27, 21 and 17 points respectively.

Out of its 33 games played so far, Luciano Spalletti’s side won 25, scored 69 goals and conceded 23.

Nigerian national and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen is leading the top scorers’ race after 22 goals scored in 27 games played. Lautaro Martínez comes next with 19 goals out of 33 games played.”

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is reigning as the player with the most assists (10) in the league followed by Juventus’ Filip Kostić (8) and Lazio’s Sergej Milinković-Savić (8).

Napoli won their first title in 1987 and their second in 1990.

They were crowned with the title this year following their draw against Udinese on Thursday- snatching the title from sixth-placed Milan which hold 58 points with a record of 16 wins, 53 scored goals and 39 conceded goals.

After conceding a goal in the 17th minute of the game, Osimhen was able to equalise in the 52nd minute.

Another goal by the forward was ruled out as a foul bringing the game to an end in a draw.

In their last five games, Napoli recorded two wins and three draws.

Their next five matches will be against eighth-placed Florentina on Sunday; Monza on May 14; Inter on May 21; Bologna on May 28 and; Sampdoria on June 4.

Juventus has won 36 Serie A titles- the higest- followed by Inter Milan and AC Milan with 19 championships.
