Muslims Appeal For Otumfuo Scholarship Slots

As part of a Committee report on peace and development among Muslims in Asanteman, presented to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II over the weekend, the Muslim community appealed to the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation (OOTIIF) for scholarship slots for bright but underprivileged Muslim students.

The report covered the achievements, measures, actions, and challenges of the Islamic community.

Presenting it after a prayer had been said for the King of the Asante Kingdom, at the Manhyia Palace on May 18, 2024, during the visit of Sub-Metro, Municipal And District Imams of Ashanti Region, Khalifah Mahamudu Ibrahim Anyass, the Imam of Jacobu, congratulated His Majesty for his “unmatched” leadership and read out the appeal of the community.

“We also appeal to His Majesty for a scholarship from the Otumfuo Scholarship Secretariat for brilliant but needy students.”

Report on Various Islamic Districts
On the Ahafo Ano South District, he told Otumfuo activities had been streamlined thereby improving the sense of communalism, while Afigya Kwabre South has acquired a piece of land for their religious activities.

In the Afigya Kwabre North District, he stated that the Islamic school has been relocated to a safe and conducive environment.

The Ahafo Ano South East and the Amansie Central (Jacobu) have advanced to the status of Municipal Assembly as they have witnessed significant development in terms of peace and stability culminating in improvement in the welfare of the people, he told His Majesty.

Additionally, he alluded to the establishment of the Muslim Women of Ghana, Ashanti, which he said has been growing and working tremendously to achieve their objectives.

Another monumental achievement that was mentioned to Otumfuo was the erection of a multi-purpose mosque at Kuntanase while the Regional Chief Imam is said to have facilitated steps for the presentation of a candidate for the role of District Chief Imam for the Bosomtwe District.

On some challenges, Otumfuo was informed that recommendations in a report forwarded to the Funso Chief and the District Assembly to facilitate the installation of a recognised Imam for Adansi Asokwa which has had several Imams, creating numerous troubles had been disregarded.

It also mentioned lack of resources as hindrance to the mandate of the Committee.
