Ofori Atta Delisted from Interpol Red Notice

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has confirmed that Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been delisted from Interpol Red Notice.

The removal is pending the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files’ final determination on an application for redaction by the former Ghanaian official, according to the Office.

It explained that following in October, Ofori Atta applied for the removal of his name from INTERPOL’s Red Notice.

This followed a request by the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files for Ghanaian Authorities to file their response, which was complied with on 22 October 2025.

The accused further filed additional arguments in an addendum to which the OSP responded on 21 November 2025.

According to the OSP, the case is under study by the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files.

This, it said, had resulted in the removal of his name from the list.

“During the pendency of the proceedings, the Applicant’s name, image and details are often redacted from public view until a final determination is made. The public is urged to disregard all publications to the contrary as borne of mischief and misinformation.”

Enlistment
The former Minister was in October enlisted on the International Police Organisation (Interpol)’s Red Notice.

The 65-year-old is wanted for “using public office for profit”, the notice stated.

The OSP triggered processes to have Ofori Atta extradited for investigation and prosecution on June 2, 2025, after it redeclared the former government official as a fugitive for justice.

This followed Ofori Atta’s failure to honour an earlier timeline for his appearance and sent a correspondence to inform the Special Prosecutor he had been diagnosed with cancer and was set for treatment on June 13, 2025, for which reason he would be unable to return to the jurisdiction as agreed.

The former Minister was at the time required to assist in investigations into five cases, including Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited & GRA Contract; ECG and Beijing Technology Limited Contract Termination; National Cathedral Project; Procurement of Ambulances; and GRA’s Tax Refund Account Payments.
