MCE Orders Traders to Remove Temporary Structures for Suame Interchange Project
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Suame Municipal Assembly, Hon. Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, has issued a directive to all roadside traders in Suame and its surroundings to dismantle their temporary structures in preparation for the upcoming construction of the Suame interchange.
Although the traders were previously informed about the upcoming project, they were allowed to remain as construction had not yet begun. However, now that the project is starting, they are required to relocate.
“We appeal to all traders not to hinder our progress. If they fail to remove their structures, we will take the necessary steps, and they will incur fines to reclaim their belongings,” stated Hon. Maxwell Ofosu Boakye in an interview with Agudey on Nkwantannanso on June 12.
Regarding concerns about legal implications and compensation for traders who hold yearly permits for specific locations, he clarified that such permits can be revoked at any time due to the temporary nature of the structures.
“The Suame Interchange project is in the best interest of everyone. It takes precedence over individual interests, so we kindly request everyone’s cooperation in complying with this directive,” he added.
In 2022, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo performed the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a four-tier interchange at Suame in Kumasi, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility in the city and the Ashanti Region as a whole.
The Suame Interchange project will feature a four-tier interchange at the current Suame Roundabout, with overpasses at the Abrepo, Krofrom, Anomangye, Magazine New Road, and Abusuakruwa junctions.
It will be the first four-tier interchange in the Ashanti Region and the second in the country, following the Pokuase Interchange in the Greater Accra Region.
