Karim Zito Admits He Never Expected A Defeat in Heart of Lions Game

The Porcupine Warriors for the third consecutive time dropped points away from home after falling to a 3-1 defeat to the ‘Dzie Woa Nu’ lads in a very crunchy Ghana Premier League week 21 clash at the Kpando Stadium on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The game travelled to the 35th minute mark before the opening goal was produced, courtesy Asante Seedorf Afful who connected into the net from a corner kick delivery at a very close range.

The home team doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time through Fawzi Ali who nipped on a huge goalkeeping clanger from Mohammed Camara to struck into the net, goal stood despite a huge foul protest from the visitors.

After 2-0 down in the interval, the ‘Kum Apem’ lads bounced back stronger in the second half and earned themselves a penalty after a ball hit the hand of an opposing player in the box in an attempt to defend a deep corner kick delivery.

Skipper Samba O’Neil took responsibility and hit into the bottom left corner beyond the reach of goalkeeper Jayson Nettey to pull one back.

In their quest to seeking a precious equalizer, the Giant Killers restored their two-goal lead in the 73rd minute after ex- Black Satellites striker Michael Ephson struck in between the legs of Camara to wrap up the victory.

In a post-match presser, the experienced tactician didn’t have much to say than to just accept defeat and switch attention to the next task:

“This is football for you. I wasn’t expecting this score line because seriously we prepared well for this game and most especially the set pieces they scored the two goals from because we have been practicing how to defend and attack set pieces”, Karim Zito said.

Asante Kotoko have now dropped to the fifth position position on the league log with 35 points, eight adrift league leaders Medeama SC.

They will definitely seek revenge and redemption when they cross swords with Aduana FC in what will be a very tricky FA Cup round of 16 clash on February 6.
